How To Flex That Creative Muscle

Planning a party, writing a letter and solving a problem are all just a few examples of great opportunities to flex one’s creative muscle. Chances to be creative are everywhere if one knows how to view each situation.

When planning a party, don’t miss the opportunity to be creative. Thinking beyond the cake and presents, games, especially homemade ones, are a great way to be creative and can be tailored to the occasion. For example, if the occasion is a farewell party, copy a favorite game show for the guests to play and gear it toward the new place or job.

Letter writing can be daunting if there is not much to report, but a letter doesn’t have to be a nonfiction report of current events. Be creative by including an assignment or question. For example, a letter writer wondered who coined the phrase “coined the phrase”. Her friend felt compelled to find an answer and wrote back that it was left over from the days of the printing press. Another idea is to write a short story or essay.

Solving some problems is a black and white affair. If the air conditioner breaks, call someone to fix it. If a new purchase is defective, return it. Other, more complex problems may present an opportunity to be quite creative. For example, if the family is sick of the same old dinners, instead of telling them to make their own darn dinner, try creating something new. Throw a couple things in the crock-pot, stir together a this and that soup on the stovetop or bake an experimental casserole.

Experimentation and invention are the best things about creativity. These few examples should generate some great creative ideas. The opportunities to be creative are out there, just be sure to look for them.
