Sometimes the best way to ignite that creative spark is a nice change of scene. Whether you’re trying to come up with new and creative ways to decorate your home or you’re trying to solve a problem, sometimes we develop tunnel vision the longer we spend dwelling on something and the best thing for it is to just simply walk away.
We’re not talking about outright abandoning whatever has you stumped, just walking away for a bit. Maybe going out to the park, catching a movie or hitting up your favorite caf – regrouping in a sense so that you can return to the problem with a fresh set of eyes. Another thing that can help in this situation is having access to the internet.
Use your smartphone while you’re out and about, clearing your mind. Fire up that laptop and tap into the local bistro’s wi-fi or 4g mobile broadband internet. Again, as long as you’re not dwelling on the problem, you can devote your energies toward something else; maybe even inadvertently discovering the cure to what ails you.
Let’s face it – we all have our days. The muse of creativity doesn’t always pay us a visit or sometimes we have to meet her halfway. If you’re stumped by a problem or a lack of creativity, then consider walking away. Step out and refresh that old thinker. Even the brain needs a creative rest from time to time.
